a2c10f6189 unicode: Support characters beyond the first unicode plane
We used 16-bit variables to store the 'character code' everywhere but
this won't let us represent anything beyond U+FFFF.

This patch changes those variables to a custom type that can be 32 or 16
bits depending on the build, and adjusts numerous internal APIs and
datastructures to match.  This includes:

 * utf8decode() and friends
 * font manipulation, caching, rendering, and generation
 * on-screen keyboard
 * FAT filesystem (parsing and generating utf16 LFNs)
 * WIN32 simulator platform code

Note that this patch doesn't _enable_ >16bit unicode support; a followup
patch will turn that on for appropriate targets.

Appears to work on:

  * hosted linux, native, linux simulator in both 16/32-bit modes.

Needs testing on:

  * windows and macos simulator (16bit+32bit)

d05c59f35b internals: Support characters beyond the first unicode plane (WIP)
We used 16-bit variables to store the 'character code' everywhere but
this won't let us represent anything beyond U+FFFF.

This patch changes those variables to a custom type that can be 32 or 16
bits depending on the build, and adjusts numerous internal APIs and
datastructures to match.  This includes:

 * utf8decode() and friends
 * on-screen keyboard
 * font manipulation, caching, rendering, and generation
 * VFAT code parses and generates utf16 dirents
 * WIN32 simulator reads and writes utf16 filenames

Note that this patch doesn't _enable_ >16bit unicode support; a followup
patch will turn that on for appropriate targets.

Known bugs:

  * Native players in 32-bit unicode mode generate mangled filename
    entries if they include UTF16 surrogate codepoints. Root cause
    is unclear, and may reside in core dircache code.

Needs testing on:

 * windows simulator (16bit+32bit)

ac03680df3 keyboard.c: Layout dynamically the morse cheat sheet (supports larger sysfonts)
The main usecase of this is so the morse cheat sheet does not look broken (with cut characters) when we are using a different/larger sysfont. All is adjusted automatically thanks to the SYSFONT_WIDTH and SYSFONT_HEIGHT constants.

Long pushs are now represented as vertical long bars, while short pushs are represented into short bars (centered in the middle). The long pushs bars are not larger anymore, so spacing is consistent everytime for all long+short order different combos thus looking cleaner and more readable.

The code was also a bit refactored to be more easily understandable in the future by using clear variable names to describe the magic values.

- Tested with mini2g: no regression, can still show all characters no problem within the limited screen space that is available on this device
- Tested with ipod6g by configuring the same default font as erosq (14-Rockboxmix) which is larger than the default sysfont: looks really good ! Way more readable than before
- Tested with 4gmono: no regression

f6c719d7ec replace strlcpy with strmemccpy
replace applicable calls to strlcpy with calls to strmemccpy
which null terminates on truncation

in theory the strmemccpy calls should be slightly faster since they
don't traverse the rest of the source string on truncation
but I seriously doubt there is too much of that going on in the code base

7e428ad190 touchscreen: force 3x3 mode in the keyboard
In absolute pointing mode the keyboard is virtually unusable since
the keys are too tiny (just 8x6). There are other issues too: for
example putting the keys on top doesn't make sense on touchscreens
and there is a lot of empty space in between keys that serves no
real purpose.

Until these issues can be addressed properly simply force 3x3 mode
when in the keyboard.

3237ae4a4f LCD core move buf ptr and address look up function viewport struct
I'm currently running up against the limitations of the lcd_draw functions
I want these functions to be able to be used on any size buffer not
just buffers with a stride matching the underlying device

[DONE] allow the framebuffer to be decoupled from the device framebuffer
[DONE need examples] allow for some simple blit like transformations
[DONE] remove the device framebuffer from the plugin api
[DONE}ditto remote framebuffer
[DONE] remove _viewport_get_framebuffer you can call struct *vp = lcd_set_viewport(NULL) and vp->buffer->fb_ptr

while remote lcds may compile (and work in the sim) its not been tested on targets

[FIXED] backdrops need work to be screen agnostic

[FIXED] screen statusbar is not being combined into the main viewport correctly yet

[FIXED] screen elements are displayed incorrectly after switch to void*

[FIXED] core didn't restore proper viewport on splash etc.

[NEEDS TESTING] remote lcd garbled data

[FIXED] osd lib garbled screen on bmp_part

[FIXED] grey_set_vp needs to return old viewport like lcd_set_viewport

[FIXED] Viewport update now handles viewports with differing buffers/strides by copying to the main buffer

[FIXED] splash on top of WPS leaves old framebuffer data (doesn't redraw)
[UPDATE] refined this a bit more to have clear_viewport set the clean bit and have skin_render do its own screen clear
scrolling viewports no longer trigger wps refresh
also fixed a bug where guisyncyesno was displaying and then disappearing

[ADDED!] New LCD macros that allow you to create properly size frame buffers in you desired size without wasting bytes
(LCD_ and LCD_REMOTE_)
LCD_STRIDE(w, h) same as STRIDE_MAIN
LCD_FBSTRIDE(w, h) returns target specific stride for a buffer W x H
LCD_NBELEMS(w, h) returns the number of fb_data sized elemenst needed for a buffer W x H
LCD_NATIVE_STRIDE(s) conversion between rockbox native vertical and lcd native stride (2bitH)
test_viewports.c has an example of usage

[FIXED!!] 2bit targets don't respect non-native strides
[FIXED] Few define snags

cb94b3ae2e keyboard add ability to specify temporary custom layouts
rb core allows you to load custom keyboard layouts

this patch adds the ability to load a keyboard layout in a buffer
the custom layout is temporary and does not overwrite the current layout

use like so:

    unsigned short kbd[64];
    unsigned short *kbd_p = kbd;
    if (!kbd_create_layout("ABCD1234\n", kbd, sizeof(kbd)))
        kbd_p = NULL;

    rb->kbd_input(buf,sizeof(buf), kbd_p);

d7871914ac Fix dangerous casts
On Windows 64-bit, the size of long is 32-bit, thus any pointer to long cast is
not valid. In any case, one should use intptr_t and ptrdiff_t when casting
to integers. This commit attempts to fix all instances reported by GCC.
When relevant, I replaced code by the macros PTR_ADD, ALIGN_UP from system.h

1fa3f5906e Swap over a position of cursor while reaching the end of filename in keyboard
In sansa clip + with virtual keyboard you can write/rename a stuff and move
your cursor in the filename field. But while your cursor reaches the end/start
of filename it just blocks the movement of cursor and beeps if you enabled the
"Voice Menu" feature. This patch swaps over cursor to the start/end of filename
instead of just blocking movement.

17ed3253fc Add const to global pointers to strings.
When a global pointer is not declared as constant, gcc will put it in
memory. Getting the address of the string it points to requires loading
the address of the pointer and then loading the pointer. When the pointer
is declared constant, the address of the string is loaded directly.

a2b6703a36 Commit FS#12150 - Fully-functional audio mixer - and finally whip old limitations about playback of voice and other sounds when paused. Channels are independent in state and amplitude. Fade on stop/pause is handled by the channel's volume control rather than global volume which means it now works from anywhere. Opens up the possibility of plugin sounds during music playback by merely adding an additional channel enum. If any PCM drivers were not properly modified, see one of the last comments in the task for a description of the simple change that is expected. Some params are tunable in firmware/export/pcm-mixer.h as well.

b2eb44ce0e FS#10824 - viewport/statusbar API rework.
Hopefully the only user visible changes are:
- fm and recording screens go by the statusbar setting (sbs or inbuilt)
- plugins go back to using the theme as they should for menus and lists
- splash screens might get cut a bit... entirely theme and splash dependant.. if there is a problematic one we can look at it later.
- hopefully nothing more than very minor screen flickerings... let me know exactly where they are so they can be fixed

New GUI screen rules:
* Screens assume that the theme (sbs+ui viewport+ maybe background image) are always enabled. They may be disabled on a per display basis, but MUST be re-enabled on exit
* Screens must not be coded in a way that requires a statusbar of any type.. the inbuilt bar will be removed shortly.
ALWAYS RESPECT THE USERS SETTINGS unless the screen requires the full display to fit.

92fb1df03a FS#10338: Add "use morse input " entry to settings menu
* Remember last used text input mode (keyboard or morse input) in settings.
* Add setting "Use Morse Code Input" under Settings -> General Settings -> System.

Now it is possible for some of targets without button combo for changing input mode to use morse input by changing the setting. it's not possible for them to change input mode during in the keyboard screen of course.
There are still targets without morse input mode.
